RailsConf is the national conference for Rails, the popular web development framework written in Ruby. This year, Chicago is hosting RailsConf and a group of brilliant developers will be sharing their thoughts on Rails, developer education, Ruby, engineering culture, and more.
Because we know our Girl Develop It members love learning, we asked a few of our developer friends who are coming into town for RailsConf to speak at an event just for you! We'll have speakers talking about tips and tricks for new web developers. Each speaker will talk or conduct a Q&A session for approximately 30 minutes. Come armed with questions!
This free event is a great way for GDI members of all skill levels (even beginners!) to experience some of the joy of RailsConf and meet people in the Ruby community for those of you unable to attend the conference.
Date: Thursday, April 24 from 6:45-8:30PM; food and beverages will be provided by the wonderful Brad's Deals.
Location: Brad's Deals, 640 N. LaSalle St., Suite 460, Chicago, IL
Sarah Mei, The Ministry of Velocity: TBD
About Sarah: I am a Ruby developer in San Francisco, California. I run a software consulting company called The Ministry of Velocity, which is super fun. We write web and mobile apps using pair programming & behavior-driven development. I founded RailsBridge in 2009 with Sarah Allen. We run free two-day workshops for women who want to learn Ruby on Rails. We’ve done over 100 events that have reached over 2000 women.
Brad Grzesiak, Bendyworks: Tips and tricks for new web developers
About Brad: A lot can be said about Brad by looking at one of his admitted pet peeves: comparing random activities to rocket science. Brad's prior professional life was spent as an aerospace engineer designing space station life support and moon mining equipment. At one point he led the design of a prototype rocket engine. So although it only comes up when comparing extremely complex tasks to other extremely complex tasks, Brad actually knows rocket science.
Hosted and Sponsored by: Brad's Deals
Brad’s Deals is a curated guide to the best shopping deals used by over 10 million consumers. We level the playing field and reduce the noise in people’s lives to give them back time, save them money and help them to be better consumers. We’re focused on solving really cool problems, like scaling out a service that is doubling in traffic every year, building an engaged community of avid deal seekers, defining the future of retail on mobile, and processing huge amounts of data to deliver the most relevant content to the right people, in the right channel, at the right time.
All attendees are expected to abide by the Girl Develop It Code of Conduct.
