Are you trying to break into the tech field? Curious about what its like to work in different technical positions? Looking to hire members for your team? Join us for the six event GDI Careers speaker series “A Day in the Life”  and learn more about important pieces of a tech team.

In our third event of the speaker series, hear from a panel of ladies from different companies and at different points in their career about how they came to be an executive, what their day-to-day responsibilities are like, and what advice they have for folks looking to enter the field.

Rona Borre: Rona Borre, CEO of Instant Alliance, stands out as one of the leading female entrepreneurs in the Chicago tech community. Since founding the IT talent management firm in 2001, the company has become a nationally recognized woman-owned business enterprise. As a leader in the IT industry, she is involved with the Illinois Technology Association and Built In Chicago to bring Chicago to the forefront of the nation’s technology community. Rona has been honored as a Prominent Woman in Technology by the Illinois Technology Association, an Influential Woman in Business by The Business Ledger and the National Association of Women Business Owners, as well as was included in the 2014 Chicago Techweek 100. 

Marcy Capron: Marcy Capron is Partner & CEO at Polymathic. She's foremost a maker, developer and technologist, secondly an interior designer and baker of epic cupcakes. In addition to being raised in an entrepreneurial engineering family, Marcy graduated from Northwestern University and has grown her company from 3 nerds on a sofa to 10 of the best product people in Chicago.  Marcy currently resides in Logan Square and works in Humboldt Park, where she and her team build products for entrepreneurs & intrapreneurs as a group-effort CTO. At their Humboldt Park office, The Living Room, Marcy also hosts intimate, alternative-networking events for programmers, designers, entrepreneurs and everyone in-between.

Jill Salzman: Jill Salzman is currently growing her third entrepreneurial venture, The Founding Moms, the world’s first and only collective of offline meetups and online resources for mom entrepreneurs that was just named a Top 10 Website for Women Entrepreneurs in 2013 by Forbes. She recently launched her fourth, <a>The Founding Kit</a>, which helps startups get started. A graduate of Brown University and law school, she started a music management firm and then launched a baby jewelry company before creating her current venture. She’s the author of Found It: A Field Guide for Mom Entrepreneurs, one of the Best Chicago Marketing Speakers in 2014, a co-host of the entertaining business podcast, Breaking Down Your Business, host of the Tip Top Tips for Entrepreneursvideo series, gave her own TED talk on 11/11/11, and most recently was dubbed a “mommy mogul” by CNNMoney. In her spare time, Jill enjoys kloofing, baking, and erasing her daughters’ crayon artwork from the kitchen walls.

Jessica Tenuta: Jessica is the co-founder and Head of Design of Packback. Packback is the first company to offer on-demand One-Day eTextbook Rentals for $5 or less per day, allowing college students to rent and pay for their books only when they actually need to read. In addition to One-Day eTextbook Rentals, Packback offers a range of other resources and tools to help make textbooks more affordable and accessible for college students.
