Pair Up!

Dev Bootcamp - 351 West Hubbard St. Suite 701 Chicago - View Map Girl Develop It Chicago
Sat, May 30, 2015, 10:00 AM (CDT)

About this event

Get paired up with a random person at your skill level to hack on a project for 2.5 hours!

Build a project, make a new friend, practice your skills, and gain some new ones. Depending on your skill levels, you'll build a project of your own, or something from our list of ideas.

You do not need to bring a computer with you to this workshop. We will be using the Dev Bootcamp pairing stations! TAs and instructors will be able to help with questions.

Please note that we only have enough pairing stations for 30 people (15 teams). Because of the strict capacity limit for this event, please only RSVP if you are actually attending. If you are unable to attend, adjust your RSVP to free up space for someone who can!

Group levels

You are required to provide your group level when your RSVP.

Level 1 - HTML/CSS: requires knowledge of HTML tag syntax, basic HTML tags, CSS properties, and CSS selectors (familiarity is ok, you don't need to be an expert!)

Level 2 - Basic JavaScript: requires familiarity with everything listed in Level 1, plus JavaScript variables, arrays, functions, conditionals, and for loops.

Level 3 - Advanced JavaScript: familiarity with everything listed in Levels 1 and 2, plus jQuery, AJAX, and JSON.

Date: Saturday, May 30th from 10 AM - 1 PM

There will be no refunds--no-show class registration fees will be donated to the chapter scholarship fund.

Agenda

After some brief intros, we’ll pair up and each pair will pick an exercise to work on together for about 2 hours. You can pick a project off of our recommended list or brainstorm an idea with your partner. At the end, we’ll recap on what we all did and learned during the session.

Host: Dev Bootcamp

Dev Bootcamp pioneered the short-term immersive “bootcamp” model which transforms beginners into full-stack web developers. With campuses in San Francisco, New York City and Chicago, our 19-week curriculum (9 week part-time remote + 9 week on-campus immersive + Career Week) focuses on Ruby, Javascript, Rails, SQL, HTML and CSS, as well as pair programming, agile and test driven development. To date we’ve graduated more than 1,000 alumni who energize development teams all over the world. Take a tour or attend an Info Session!

If you are interested in being a teaching assistant for this workshop, please contact Paige through Meetup or via email. TAing is a great way to practice what you know and to get to know members of our community.

All attendees, including staff and volunteers, are expected to abide by the Girl Develop It code of conduct.
