Session 1: Introduction to Server Side Languages and PHP

What is a server-side language? How is it different than client-side languages? What is PHP? Why is it so popular? What can it do? Learn the basic structure and syntax of PHP and manipulate variables. Begin using if-else and while loops.
Session 2: Introduction to MySQL
Tuesday, September 20 - 7:00pm to 9:00pm
What is a MySQL database? Why are relational databases important? Who uses them? Why should I? Build a basic database in MySQL and add to it using PHP and HTML forms.
Session 3: Database Manipulation
Tuesday, September 27 - 7:00pm to 9:00pm
Add, edit and delete content in your database. Learn how to manipulate different content types, including text, numbers, dates, and multimedia. Relate data across your database. Develop search functions.
Session 4: Advanced PHP
Tuesday, October 4 - 7:00pm to 9:00pm
Create password protected information. Use PHP to dynamically customize the HTML or CSS in your webpages. Learn popular advanced PHP functions used in the real world.
About the Teacher
Izzy Johnston is a freelance computer programmer who teaches adjunct technology development classes and workshops at Pratt Institute. She has over six years of instructional experience in software and languages and over 11 years of coding experience. Currently, her work focuses on Android and iPhone applications and Drupal website migrations. She is well versed in HTML, CSS, XML, PHP, Javascript, Java, Objective C, C++, iOS, and Android OS.
