About this event

This class will be taught on 4 weeknights Monday 7/17, Wednesday 7/19, Monday 7/24 Tuesday 7/25 from 7-9:00pm.

React Native lets you build mobile apps using only JavaScript. It uses the same design as React, letting you compose a rich mobile UI from declarative components. In this class we’ll introduce the basics of this framework and highlight its pros and cons. We will also go over how React Native handles the differences between iOS and Android. By the end of the class, you will have built a fully functioning app that looks native on BOTH platforms!

Topics to be covered:

- The anatomy of a React Native app

- Creating cross platform UIs

- Handling user events

- Navigating between screens

- Networking

- Finding your way around Xcode and Android Studio when you need to

- Knowledge of Javascript or intermediate to advanced knowledge in any programming language

- Nice to haves: Knowledge of React.js and/or CSS

If you have any questions about prerequisites you can leave a comment on the wall or message the organizer.

All attendees are expected to abide by theGirl Develop It Code of Conduct

About the instructor

Elliot is an entrepreneur, recovering mathematician, Raspberry Pi enthusiast, and mobile developer. After catching the programming bug way back in 7th grade, Elliot slowly came to the conclusion (over the course of a decade) that he should be making software for a living, and is now running a small mobile app development company called Thryv. He is delighted to be teaching another class for GDI.
