React Native lets you build mobile apps using only JavaScript. It uses the same design as React, letting you compose a rich mobile UI from declarative components. In this class we’ll introduce the basics of this framework and highlight its pros and cons. We will also go over how React Native handles the differences between iOS and Android. By the end of the class, you will have built a fully functioning app that looks native on BOTH platforms!

- The anatomy of a React Native app
- Creating cross platform UIs
- Handling user events
- Navigating between screens
- Networking
- Finding your way around Xcode and Android Studio when you need to
Prerequisites:

- Nice to haves: Knowledge of React.js and/or CSS

About the instructor
Elliot is an entrepreneur, recovering mathematician, Raspberry Pi enthusiast, and mobile developer. After catching the programming bug way back in 7th grade, Elliot slowly came to the conclusion (over the course of a decade) that he should be making software for a living, and is now running a small mobile app development company called Thryv. He is delighted to be teaching another class for GDI.
