About this event

This class will be taught over 2 nights running Mon and Tues 7-9pm both days. This class is $50.00; the cost covers both days of courses.

* You must bring picture ID to check in downstairs in the lobby - RSVP with your full name for Security. *

This class is intended for students with a solid foundational understanding of CSS. This workshop will be a comprehensive introduction to Sass, a.k.a. everyone's favorite CSS pre-processor!

Vanilla CSS is a fairly simple language, can do some pretty powerful things, but after a while... well, it can become rather tedious to work with.

Enter Sass: Syntactically Awesome Stylesheets. Sass is a CSS meta-language and precompiler that makes the prettification of your website a breeze by adding invaluable features of more traditional programming languages.

TOPICS COVERED:
In this class, we'll jump right in to the Sass workflow and cover all the key game changers - nesting, variables, mix-ins, inheritance, and directives. We'll also cover some of the gotchas, tools and extensions, and tips on organization and coding standards.

PREREQUISITES:
Students should be familiar and comfortable working with HTML and CSS (such as GDI’s Intro to HTML/CSS and Intermediate HTML/CSS class or equivalent training).

It is also helpful, but not required, to have some understanding of Git/Github and Command Line. If you do not already have experience with these tools, we recommend using these online resources:

• Codecademy’s Learn the Command Line (https://www.codecademy.com/learn/learn-the-command-line)

• Github’s Online Training (https://training.github.com/) (click on “Try Git right in your web browser” at the bottom of the page)

TECH REQUIREMENTS:
A laptop with Sass installed.

For Mac users, http://sass-lang.com/install (use the Command Line instructions)

For Windows users, https://teamtreehouse.com/community/how-to-install-sass-on-windows
