Early bird price ends May 21! This is Parts 1 + 2 of the HTML/CSS Workshop Series for Build-Your-Own-Webpage package. Make sure to continue the series by signing up for Parts 3 + 4 (responsive design, Bootstrap, and getting your webpage online)!
In this two-day project-based workshop, you'll learn HTML and CSS, the languages used by the billions of webpages out there today to mark up and style content. HTML and CSS are incredibly useful skills for bloggers, content creators, email marketers, small business owners, designers, and are absolutely necessary skills front-end web developers.
The comprehensive workshop will be a mix of lectures, pair programming, and hands-on exercises building your webpage, and will be taught by Jaclyn Karnowski, Teacher at Dev Bootcamp, and Jessica Parsons, a web development teacher at JobTrain. This is a recommended workshop for students interested in our full front-end workshop series.
By the end of this two-day workshop, you will know the following:
• How to structure a web page using HTML tags (e.g creating About Me, Projects, and Contact Me sections for your personal website)
• How to style and animate web pages using CSS (e.g a bold blog title, italicized date of entry, the blog content in a cool font, and cute icons for your blog)
We will go from 10:00am to 5:00pm on both Saturday and Sunday. Lunch will be provided.
Prerequisites: Attendees are not expected to have any previous HTML/CSS or programming experience.
Tech requirements: Your laptop (Mac, PC, or Linux are all okay. If you don't have one of those, please let us know in advance) and charger. A modern web browser - either Chrome or Firefox.A text editor. We recommend Sublime Text 2 (free; available for both Mac and PC) or Notepad++ (PC).
This weekend workshop is comprised of our two $90 single-day full workshops. Early bird price is $150 and then the price will go to our original $180.
Study Group: There is a Study Group session on Thursday, June 9 6pm-8pm where you will get personalized help from our wonderful TAs. They can give you feedback, answer your questions pertaining to your webpage, and review your code. You can also get a review on what was covered in HTML/CSS Workshop Part 1 + 2.
Payment is required to attend. If you'd like to attend but cannot afford the cost, request a scholarship. Due to the amount of applications, only the scholarship recipient will receive an email a few days before the workshop. Thank you for your understanding!
