About this event

Course description

In this workshop, we will introduce jQuery, the most popular JavaScript library for making webpages interactive. This is the perfect follow-up workshop for those who have attended our Intro to JS: Animations and Events. or even by attending JQuery Part 1 Workshop!

The workshop will be a mix of lectures and hands-on exercises in pairs, and will be taught by Hanah Yendler, Front End Developer at SEPHORA, and Mary Ann Jawili, Software Engineer at Salesforce.

Slides and materials are hosted here.

Prerequisites

Attendees should be comfortable with HTML/CSS fundamentals (HTML tags and attributes, CSS selectors) and JavaScript fundamentals (syntax, data structures, conditionals, loops). Attendees should also have learned the DOM API (access and modification methods). That means that you either attended our Intro to HTML workshops, Intro to JS workshop (Parts 1 and 2), or that you learned those concepts online. Having a little familiarity with jQuery is helpful as well, and we are hosting an Intro part 1 of this workshop, on April 4th!

You can review these subjects online at a few places:

• HTML/CSS: Khan Academy's HTML/CSS course, Codecademy's HTML/CSS course, GDI SF HTML/CSS slides

• JS: Codecademy's JS course, Khan Academy's Intro to JS course, GDI SF JS slides

• DOM API: Khan Academy's "Making Webpages Interactive" course

Tech requirements:

• Your laptop (Mac, PC, or Linux are all okay) and charger.

• A modern web browser - either Chrome or Firefox.

• A text editor. We recommend Sublime Text 2 (free; available for both Mac and PC) or Notepad++ (PC).

Topics covered:

• Adding events with jQuery

• Making animation effects with jQuery

• Best practices when using jQuery

Payment is required to attend. If you'd like to attend but cannot afford the cost, click here to request a scholarship. Due to the amount of applications, only the scholarship recipient will receive an email a few days before the workshop. Thank you for your understanding!
