About this event

In this project-based workshop, you'll learn how to go beyond with HTML and CSS: using the popular CSS Framework Bootstrap for responsive design and pre-built components.

Agenda

• HTML & CSS Review
• Tools and pro-tips for front-end development and debugging
• Good defaults and comparison of front-end frameworks
• Bootstrap grid system
• Exercise - Fluid layout with bootstrap system
• Bootstrap CSS, component classes, atomic design
• Building a website with UI components
• Exercise - Splash page for your portfolio
• Exercise - Contact me form
• Exercise - Personal website gallery

The comprehensive workshop will be a mix of lectures, pair programming, and hands-on exercises building your webpage, and will be taught by Truc Nguyen, Senior UI/UX Designer at Unity Technologies and Hanah Yendler, Front End Developer at Sephora.

By the end of this workshop, you will know how to make a responsive web page using a framework like Bootstrap (e.g making your web page look great on phones, tablets, and desktop computers).

Lunch will not be provided.

Prerequisites: Basic knowledge of HTML, CSS as covered in Build Your First Website. For reference you should be comfortable with this material: HERE (http://verythorough.com/gdi-featured-html-css-intro/#/)

A website built with at least 2 pages, including:
• nav bar & footer
• images
• tag
• ordered list / unordered list
• STRETCH: 2 different styling approaches

Tech requirements: Your laptop (Mac, PC, or Linux are all okay. If you don't have one of those, please let us know in advance) and charger.A modern web browser - either Chrome or Firefox. A text editor. We recommend Sublime Text 2 (free; available for both Mac and PC) or Notepad++ (PC).
