Whether it is being interviewed or interviewing candidates, these experienced engineers are here to give you insight on what hiring teams are looking for and how you can be a better interviewer.
Erica Baker, Build and Release Engineer at Slack: Erica is a Senior Engineer at Slack Technologies and advocate for diversity and inclusion in tech, and expanding access to tech education. Erica's career in tech began fourteen years ago doing domain administration for the University of Alaska Statewide System, before becoming a Googler in 2006. Erica's role grew and shifted within Google, growing from Support Technician to Site Reliability Engineer. She joined Slack in 2015, where she focuses on Build and Release Engineering. Erica is on the Advisory Boards for Atipica and Hack the Hood, and is a Tech Mentor for Black Girls Code. Erica is currently based in Oakland, California.
Maria Chavez Cantu, Software Engineer Manager at Pandora: Maria Chavez Cantu has over 17 years experience in all aspects of the development life cycle. In that time, she has worked for many companies, big and small taking on different roles: architect, product manager, lead, developer, QA At Pandora, over the past 6 years she has worked as a Senior Software Engineer on Devices and Android Mobile, and currently is the Manager of Device Engineering, responsible for delivering the Pandora experience to millions of listeners through consumer devices in the home.
Sarah Hallahan, Technical Recruiter at AdRoll: Sarah has 4 years recruiting experience for technical and non-technical roles in both Europe and the US and has been involved in building various programmatic initiatives from interview best practices to recruiting event management. She is currently focusing her efforts leading technical recruiting for AdRoll while working to operationalize their Diversity & Inclusion strategy.
Michele Mickelson, Senior Recruiter at Weebly: Over the last sixteen years, Michele has worked collaboratively with companies to develop culture and grow their teams to be a highly functional and fun. She has worked as a consultant with YC and Sequoia backed companies focusing on technical hires. Most recently, she has worked at Weebly for the last four years, helping to grow their engineering team from 10 to 75. Her focus is finding the right person based on a candidates background and interests to the right company. A perfect match is not easy to find, but once the connection happens it's nirvana for everyone.
Jenny Lin, Engineering Manager at Optimizely: Jenny is the manager for front end and web client development at Optimizely. She’s also a part of Optimizely’s Diversity and Inclusion group and a TechWomen mentor. She has reviewed over a thousand resumes, conducted several hundreds of interviews, and hired tens of engineers in her over fifteen years of experience. When she's not working, she's competing in either bridge or curling.
Priti Gangrade, Senior Software Developer at Ticketfly: Priti Gangrade recently joined Ticketfly as Sr Software Developer. She has close to 15 years of experience and started her career as software consultant on the east coast. Prior to Ticketfly, she worked for company called Attensity and got her first exposure to big data parsing entire Twitter firehose, Facebook posts & comments, blog and forums. Through brown bag meetings, reading and attending various meetups she keeps abreast about newer technologies. At Attensity, she undertook initiative to dockerize data ingestion components and was subject matter expert for mongodb a no-sql databases. She believes in constantly learning and having a don't give up attitude, enjoying what you do and do what you enjoy.
