Please Note: This is a two day, 5-hour per day course, not a 1-day, 7 hour course.
Liz Howard is a developer with more than 8 years professional experience under her belt. She's worked on huge Node.js applications and has developed in many other server-side programming languages, and has mentored many jr. developers. Currently, she is teaching at GDI and working to expand our programming and curriculum.
What do I need to know?
Who is this class for?
This is for students that have learnt some basic web development knowledge (like via our HTML and JS intros) and want to take the next step to learning server-side web development skills. If you're already well-versed with a server-side scripting language, this class may be too basic for you. If you're not sure if this class is a good fit, just leave a comment or send a message.
What will I need to bring?
A laptop and charger. We will be using Cloud9IDE, rather than installing things locally. Please create a Github account and a Cloud9 account before coming to class.
What will I get out of it?
You will be able to create a web server that handles forms and manages users, and you will be able to deploy that server to Heroku. You will also have a fairly in-depth knowledge of how data moves around on the web, and what is possible using a server.
We're providing lunch, but this is a very in-depth course, so you'll be eating while you work, as we only have 10 hours to turn you into back-end developers!
Thanks to our sponsor Storify for the location!
If you'd like to attend but cannot afford the cost, please request a GDI scholarship.
