About this event

Welcome to the Wonderful World of WordPress!

Have you ever wondered what all of the hype is about WordPress?

You’re not alone. The hype is well-deserved. What started out in 2003 as a blogging platform has evolved into a full-fledged Content Management System (CMS). WordPress is currently the most prominent CMS in the world! WordPress is a free, open source software application that you can use to build websites and blogs with little or minimal knowledge of web coding.

In this one night, 2 hour class, we will compare WordPress.org with WordPress.com and discover the key attributes of shared and managed hosting plans. We’ll learn about installing and configuring basic settings in WordPress, choosing and installing a theme, adding new pages and posts, creating nav menus, working with widgets, installing plugins, creating child themes, and customizing themes. Gather your questions and bring them to class!

Prerequisites and Preparation:

For this introductory-level class, you’ll need:

• a laptop with a web browser (*Chrome preferred, but see note below about Safari.)

• a sense of humor ;-)

• a WordPress site - one of the following options would be good:

We will not be able to assist individuals during classtime in installing a live WordPress site on their own webhost. There are too many variations in webhost configurations! If you experience any difficulties installing WordPress on your webhost, contact Anne for assistance a few days before class, or use WordPress.com or Flywheel for this class.
