In 2020, Girl Develop It saw an opportunity to expand our commitment to fostering inclusivity, belonging, and access in tech by offering virtual classes, events, and mentorship to women and non-binary individuals all over the world. Since this pivot, we have served over 5,000 individuals like GDI Scholar, Nada, who received a scholarship this year which has influenced the trajectory of her personal and professional life. These scholarships help individuals who are shifting to new careers after job loss in the pandemic, or individuals looking to reclaim their power starting new chapters of their lives. These scholarships help individuals learn, grow, create community, and develop confidence with the support and safety of our network and classes.
Many of our GDI scholars apply for reasons like: "I am an older student and finding it hard to make the switch into UX" and "Receiving this scholarship will boost my self-confidence, knowing that I not only completed a very important task but also took the responsibility of creating a foundation for getting me closer to my career goals." And some apply because " This scholarship is the door for my future and fulfill my goals" and "A GDI scholarship can help me to make my dream come true."
