Why Get Wired For Wellness?

Do you want to use technology to make a positive impact on the world? Or maybe you're curious about coding and want a fun, supportive space to explore those interests? Regardless of your skillset, expertise, or 'why,' GDI's 4th Annual Virtual Hackathon is the perfect opportunity for you to discover a community of technologists who are committed to connecting, coding, and creating together.

Here's why you should get Wired for Wellness:

  • Hack for Health: This year's theme, "Wired for Wellness," is a call to action. We're challenging you to think creatively about how technology can improve health outcomes. Imagine developing a wearable device that encourages mindful movement, or an app that makes personalized health data accessible and actionable.
  • No Experience Necessary: Whether you're an experienced coder or completely new to tech, this Hackathon is designed to be inclusive. GDI offers pre-hackathon events and skill-boosting workshops to equip you with the tools you need to succeed. We also have ways for you to comfortably explore a Hackathon with hands-on help. Check out our HackAlong, which matches you with a team, a predetermined project, and an instructor to guide you every step of the way.
  • Find Your Community: The tech world can feel intimidating, especially for women and non-binary individuals. GDI's Hackathon is a safe and supportive environment where you can connect with mentors, peers, and experienced technologists who share your passion.
  • Build Something Meaningful: This is your chance to collaborate with a team and create a project you're truly proud of. The Hackathon's focus on wellness means your ideas and creations have the potential to make a real difference in people's lives.
  • Learn from the Best: The Hackathon features keynote speakers, panel discussions, and hands-on workshops led by industry professionals. It's a fantastic opportunity to gain insights and learn from the best in the field.
  • It's FREE! Thanks to GDI's generous sponsors, this incredible opportunity is completely free to attend. That's right – you can gain valuable experience, build your skills, and connect with the tech community with no cost to you.

Still not sure it's for you?

Join our Information Session on November 6th at 7p ET/4p PT to learn more details about what the Hackathon entails, ask questions, and meet fellow hackers interested in joining. In the meantime, check out our Frequently Asked Questions to learn more:

What is a Hackathon? It's an event where people from diverse fields collaborate intensively on projects. Think of it as a fast-paced, problem-solving environment where innovation thrives!

Who should attend? Anyone interested in tech! Whether you're a beginner, tech-curious, or experienced, all are welcome.

Can I propose a project? Absolutely! You can pitch your idea and lead a team to bring it to life. Bring your ideas to our Team Formation and Idea Generation session the day before the Hackathon kicks off (November 12th from 7:30p - 9p ET / 4:30p - 6p PT). This will be a casual, fun space to share your ideas, or learn about what others have planned, and join a team that suits your interests!

How do I find a team? We'll have a Team Formation session where you can find a team that best suits your interests and skills. You can also join our HackAlong, which is a team that has a predetermined project and is guided the entire way by a skilled (and fun!) instructor. Check it out here. For those who can't make the Team Formation meeting, have no fear! You can join a team at any time once the Hackathon kicks off on Nov. 13th or find a team on our active Hackathon Slack channel.

Is there a code of conduct? Yes, all participants must follow the Girl Develop It Code of Conduct to ensure a safe and inclusive environment. You can read the Code of Conduct here.

Can I still join if I can't make the whole event? Yes! Contribute as much as you can, even if it's just for part of the event.

Do I need to work all night? No all-nighters here! The event is spread out, giving you plenty of time to learn and build at your own pace.

We hope this answers your questions and gets you excited to join us for the GDI Virtual Hackathon. It’s a chance to practice your skills, meet new people, and make something amazing! Register today! Can't wait to see you there!
