About this event

"Luck has nothing to do with it, I have spent many, many hours, countless hours, on the court working for my one moment in time, not knowing when it would come."  - Serena Williams

We know it's difficult to get where you want in tech, whether it's getting your first job or that next big promotion. And a big part of that is understanding what employers are looking for. GDI has been invested in career development for our members for over a decade and we know that one of the hardest steps to landing your dream job is feeling confident, ready, and nailing your interviews. This is why we are partnering with our friends at Tech Gives Back to offer one-to-one practice interviews for free so that you can learn, grow, and get ready for what's next.

Here's what to expect:

Event Details:
Tuesday, October 4, 2022
12:00p - 1:00p ET / 9:00a - 10:00a PT

Cost: Free

Agenda:

  • Overview & Welcome
  • Expert Panel with Interview Advice
  • 1:1 Mock Interviews (via Zoom breakout rooms)
    • 15 min/practice questions
    • 15 min/feedback and discussion

What to expect from a Mock Interview:

This session is designed to offer practice and feedback on the conversational element of a job interview.  These mock Interviews do not focus on technical questions but rather the,  "Tell me about yourself" questions.  Here are some sample questions:

  • Tell me why you are interested in a new position.
  • Tell me about your career pivot.
  • What skills from your previous role/field will be valuable working in tech?

Limited Capacity:

This event is at no cost and opened to all members of our community, but we are limited by the number of volunteers we have.   If you register and your schedule changes, please do let us know, so we can open up your space. This allows more people to join and also does not leave your individually matched volunteer from SVB waiting for you.

More Opportunities:

Technical Interviewing Support:  We are offering two cohort classes (each meet for 4 week) this fall on Technical Interviewing.  Learn more about  Intro to Algorithms, Intermediate Algorithms & Intro to Graph Problem Solving courses.
