Support our Scholarship Program!

GDI rejects the stereotypes that women and non-binary individuals aren’t interested in technology and that people can’t learn tech as adults. GDI chooses to focus on affordable education services for adults who might otherwise be unable to access tech classes, letting them know it’s never too late for them to learn. We are raising $7,200 before May to provide 10 more scholarships in 2023. Please make a donation today and support our scholarships.

Intro to JavaScript

FrontEnd Classes

Thu, Apr 13, 9:00 PM (UTC)

About this event

JavaScript is the world's most popular programming language for a reason--it's the primary way to build interaction on the web. It also powers popular large-scale websites, web applications, and games such as Netflix, Uber, the New York Times, Angry Birds, and more.

If you’ve already learned HTML and CSS, learning JavaScript is a logical next step.

No programming experience whatsoever? No problem! JavaScript is one of the most useful first languages to learn if you’re getting started with coding.

This beginner-friendly workshop will introduce you to the basics of JavaScript through a mix of lectures and hands-on exercises. By the end, you will learn about:

  • Variables and data types (Strings, arrays, etc)
  • Creating basic functions
  • Setting up if/else statements aka Conditionals
  • Using JavaScript to make a site/page do exciting things!

Class Details:

Thursday, April 13th
5:00 p - 8:00p ET / 2:00p - 5:00p PT

Attendees are not expected to have any programming experience. However,  we do offer an Intro to HTML & CSS corse that could prepare you for this class.

If you have experience with another language or prior experience with JavaScript, you are welcome to attend, but understand that the course is tailored for absolute beginners.
