Support our Scholarship Program!

GDI rejects the stereotypes that women and non-binary individuals aren’t interested in technology and that people can’t learn tech as adults. GDI chooses to focus on affordable education services for adults who might otherwise be unable to access tech classes, letting them know it’s never too late for them to learn. We are raising $7,200 before May to provide 10 more scholarships in 2023. Please make a donation today and support our scholarships.

About this event

Overview:

Web design is the visual styling and layout of a website. It requires a good understanding of color, type, alignment, and harmony. With pleasing aesthetics, organized navigation, and sensible UX, visitors are more likely to stay on the site and view multiple pages.

We'll have a hands-on evening practicing the key principles of design and implementing them. Design is more than colors and fonts: it begins with establishing client goals, formulating a strategy to achieve those goals, and creating a strong design concept to support the strategy. Brainstorming and sketching out ideas is part of this fun process, so bring paper and pen or tablet to get started!

Once you've got the design figured out, you use HTML and CSS to build the site. As time allows, we'll explore how to: add contrast, use continuity, align items, group elements together, improve hierarchy, and ensure good readability. Gather your questions and bring them to our class!
