Nov 1, 2022, 10:30 PM – Nov 11, 2022, 2:30 AM

Have you tried your hand at some beginner Python, but aren't quite sure how to make something useful?m This project will walk you through the steps of development as we work together to build your first Python app from scratch!

About this event

Have you tried your hand at some beginner Python, but aren't quite sure how to make something useful? Getting started with development means piecing together more than just language fundamentals like variables and functions. We have to think about practical project features, create a layout, and implement our ideas through code all while managing bugs and using existing libraries. If you've completed our Python I series and are ready to put your learning to use, this Python Project I series will help you do just that by building your first Python app from scratch!

Join us for GDI's Python Project I virtual cohort series, designed for those who have taken some beginner Python workshops but have no practical experience creating a project. During this interactive series, we'll learn practical development skills: installing a language, setting up an IDE (Integrated Development Environment), laying out an interface, using a coding library, implementing app features, and fixing bugs. We'll focus on a project-based learning model to create a Todo List App. You'll leave the workshop with a working Todo List App and ideas for your next project.

The best part, if you are interested in participating in the Hackathon, this is a great way to prep!

Topics covered:

  • Python Review (brief)
  • Installing Python
  • Using an IDE (Integrated Development Environment)
  • Working with a Python Library
  • Creating a User Interface
  • Implementing app features
  • Testing and debugging

The class will include hands-on work and assignments. Students will benefit both from the instructor's knowledge and the peer-to-peer interactions. This is a cohort class and will run for a total of 12 instructional hours over 4 classes (each 3 hours long).
