About this event

JavaScript is among the most popular programming languages today and powers the majority of the web. Looking to get started as a developer? JavaScript is a great first language to learn, and can prepare you for other languages. Interested in building dynamic web sites? Learning JavaScript is a must to turn static pages into engaging browsing experiences.

In this beginner-friendly, six-class series, you will learn programming fundamentals and foundational JavaScript topics:

  • JavaScript variables and data types
  • Data structures: Arrays and Objects
  • Built-in JavaScript string and array methods
  • Working with conditionals, loops, and functions
  • Basics of JavaScript in the browser (DOM)

Prerequisites:

No prior programming experience is required. Basic knowledge of HTML & CSS is recommended, but not required.

If you have prior programming experience, you’re welcome to enroll, but this series may be too introductory for you.

Technical requirements:

  • Your laptop
  • A modern web browser (Chrome or Firefox recommended)
  • An online code editor account*
    • Recommended: REPL.it
    • Alternatives: CodePen.io, CodeSandbox.io
    • *All options listed offer free sign ups / account plans
  • Optional: A code or text editor**
    • Recommended: Visual Studio Code
    • Alternatives: Atom, Brackets, Sublime Text
